Fertility Medications

Fertility medications are often used to induce ovulation; to improve the quality or quantity of eggs released or retrieved through IVF; and to enhance progesterone production to assist implantation.

The primary fertility drugs used at Carolina Conceptions are:

  1. Clomiphene Citrate
  2. Tamoxifen
  3. Letrozole (Femara)
  4. FSH & HMG—subcutaneous injections
  5. Progesterone
  6. Metformin (Glucophage)
  7. HCG/Ovidrel

Other medications we use include:

  1. Lupron:
Leuprolide acetate is an injectable medication that results in "quieting down" your ovary. Lupron causes theovary to become hormonally inactive as reflected in low estrogen levels and no ovarian cysts via ultrasound. Lupron prevents premature ovulation in IVF cycles.
  2. Antagon:
Antagon comes in a prefilled syringe. It is an injectable medication tha also prevents the ovary from premature ovulation. Unlike Lupron it is usually started once your ovaries have started to form follicles and produce estrogen. Antagon may cause more local skin irritation than your other injectable medications.
  3. Estrogen
  4. Provera/Prometrium
