According to a recent study completed in the U.K., after nine rounds of IVF, “the cumulative birthrate for women younger than 40, using their own eggs, was 71.6% .” For women 40-42 years old, using their own eggs, “the cumulative (live birth) rate dropped to 32.7%.”

This article addresses several issues facing couples contemplating IVF,” explained Dr. Bill Meyer of Carolina Conceptions. “First of all, despite improving pregnancy rates over the last decade, over half of the youngest women fail in each cycle. The cumulative rate can improve into the 60 and even 70 percent, but this may mean repeat cycles. Repeat cycles means more financial and time commitment. Many ivf programs like Carolina Conceptions offer a refund program for qualifying patients in anticipation of the fact that the first cycle is not always successful.”
