The Cost of IVF

The cost of fertility treatment can be overwhelming and is often a barrier to seeking fertility care. IVF costs are covered or partially covered by a number of insurance plans. Many larger corporations have excellent benefit plans in the triangle and to patient's surprise, some smaller companies have excellent benefits as well. Certain states have excellent fertility benefits but unfortunately, North Carolina is not one of them. Investigating websites for the cost of IVF can be confusing. There are often a ariety of options including some "shared risk" or "money back" options. Although the largest fee is often the transvaginal egg retrieval, there are many other associated costs such as consultation and monitoring visits, saline ultrasound, anesthesia fees and embryo transfer and cryopreservation costs to mention a few. These fees are often not included in the website pricing and can be an unpleasant surprise to couples at their first office visit.

If you are considering IVF and are confused regarding the pricing, or want to compare your information regarding pricing at other local programs, our financial coordinators are very willing to discuss your questions and review our costs in detail. If you are under the impression that our costs are higher than other area  programs, please call us so that we can review with you . We will also help you check you insurance benefits which can also be a confusing venture. Many couples are surprised to discover that a portion or all of their treatment may be covered.

Questions to Consider PRIOR to Starting Infertility Treatment:

Insurance can be a very difficult topic for some patients to understand, so we want everyone to have the tools they need to make the right decisions for themselves.  Prior to seeing one of our physicians for the first time our financial counselors contact your insurance company to obtain your infertility benefits, so after you meet with the physician and have a plan of treatment in place, they can help you understand your responsibilities.   Insurance can be overwhelming if you are hearing it for the first time, so please do some research on your own.
Here are some questions to ask your insurance company:

1. Do I have any infertility coverage?

2. Is Carolina Conceptions an in network or out     of network provider?   NOTE:  If you have United Healthcare - the answer will be out of network - get your in network benefits as those are the benefits we will discuss with you in our office!!!

3. How much is my copayment for a Specialist?

4. If I have coverage for IUI and IVF does it require a prior authorization or approval??

5. How many attempts do I have of each procedure?

6. Do I have a lifetime maximum amount for IVF or Artificial insemination?

7. Is there medication coverage?

8. Is timed intercourse covered?

9. If I have coverage for IUI / IVF is there any deductible or coinsurance that I am responsible to pay for treatment?

10. How much of my deductible has been met?
If you ever have questions about your insurance or pricing, please do not hesitate to contact one of our financial coordinators to explanation.   Our doors are always open for our patients.
